Once you get your character created, enter him into the world for the first time. But before you go anywhere, you need to set everything up so he/she will be ready for anything.

First click on Persona in the upper left corner. This will show you all of your characters stats and the items not equipped on the bottom right. Click on inventory on the top right of the screen. This shows you the multitude of areas which items can be equipped on. After equipping whichever cheap item they give you by clicking it and then putting it on your character picture on the right to equip it, right click the letter or parchment in the lower right. It should give you the place to go and the person to see do join your guild. After reading that , you can click done and then done in the lower right to exit the persona screen.

The next thing is to set up your hot buttons. Make sure and get any that are used often in your first set and then any others you want in the rest. You do this by left clicking and holding a button on the right (such as a combat skill) until the box appears with the mouse, then drag it over the 'hotkeys' on the left and left click to place it in the box you wish it to have.

In the top right hand box I usually have my melee attack, and the one underneath it range attack(if you have a ranged weapon). If you are a fighter class type place kick or bash on the one to the left of melee attack. The other ones to place on your main ones at the beginning is sit/stand, sense heading, and some other special skill.

If you are a magic user, you should have a couple scrolls to scribe into your spellbook. To do this, you need to click on spells towards the middle left side, and then left click the scroll on the right and put it in a box in your spellbook. The bar on the right will turn red and slowly inch its way down. Don't do anything while this happens, you are scribing that spell. When it is done repeat the procedure for the other one (if you've got another one). Once the spells are in the spellbook, you still need to memorize them so that your character can actually use them. You can only have 8 spells memorized at any one time. To memorize a spell you click it on your spellbook and then drag it to a spell hotspot right to the left of your spellbook (the little nitches in the window are the spell hotspots). The little red bar on the left should light up and start to go down now, and same as before, don't do anything until it is done. When you are finished scribing and memorizing your spells, you can click done in the bottom right to exit the area.

A couple other important items are in the options section in the upper right, just browse through those to change settings to your desire. The other important buttons are F9 and F10, which switches the screen views.
