Creating Your Character

Please visit our sponsors

Well, your sitting in front of the new character screen, with so many different races to be and classes to play… Not really sure which one you want to be? You've come to the right place.

Plan what you want to do…

You must know what kind of 'character' you want to role play -- maybe a holy knight, ready to help others in the dangers of combat with swords and armor, or maybe you wish to be a corrupt necromancer creating his hordes of animated corpses to help in his overall corruption of the world… This is by far the time to think hard, on what type of character you wish to be -- the creation of your player will determine what type of playing style you must adapt to and how your character is viewed by others. If you want to check out the basic stats on each race or class either look in the player's guide (if you have it) or check out the Everquest main site. I may go into detail later more on each individual class and race but right now those two references are the best I have found to get a grasp on which type of player you wish to be.

Something very important that people don't spend too much time on is distributing the ability points. The main tip I have here is think of your character later on down the road more than at the beginning. In the first few levels monsters are relatively easy to overcome, but as you become stronger and more experienced the monsters become harder and deplete your energy reserves more often.

When distributing these points think if you are a loner or a grouper. If you plan to group, you may not need to worry as much about things such as strength for carrying more items and stamina for increased life.(although I think stamina is by far the most important stat)

Ok, Strength -- it is important for a character you plan to suit in full plate, have at least 90 for him, if not, its not so important because anything above 75 I'd say will do the work. The most important part of strength is it determines how much your character can carry, although it also has a role in how much damage you dish out, but not a BIG role. I'd recommend leaving this alone unless you are a class which can wear full plate or you are a loner and want increased carrying capacity.

Stamina -- This is my most favorite stat, its main purpose is how many hit points your character gains through his levels. By raising this stat you will have more life overall throughout the game. If you want to be a loner or a melee fighter, I recommend raising this a good amount to ensure you will live longer. Even the magic using classes could use a little boost in this area, especially if they are going to be loners.

Agility -- This stat determines how often you hit and miss a monster. Most of the time don't waste your extra points here, whatever class and race you choose usually has the amount that you need here.

Dexterity -- This is close to agility, it determines how often the moster hits and misses YOU. And same as agility, I wouldn't worry about raising this one too much either.

Wisdom -- This stat is important if you are a shaman, paladin, ranger, cleric, or druid, in that it determines how many mana points you gain per level. I'd say that if you are one of those classes boost this ability also.

Intelligence -- This is the stat for magicians, wizards, necromancers, shadow knights, and enchanters. It determines how many mana points they gain per level, so if your one of these classes, boost the int.

Charisma -- This stat is pretty much useless, don't ever raise it! It’s a waste of points and the only purpose it really has is determining how much npcs like you and if you will make more money selling items to shops.
